Synopsis: In the Rakhine State of Myanmar, the Rohingya people have faced decades of systematic discrimination and statelessness, and have been targeted by violence. Such persecution, with significant spikes following violent attacks in 1978, 1991-1992, and again in 2016, has forced Rohingya women, girls, boys, and men to flee into Bangladesh for many years. However, it was in August 2017 that a deadly crackdown by Myanmar's military on Rohingya Muslims sent hundreds of thousands fleeing across the border into Bangladesh. At the beginning of the crisis in 2017, the Bangladeshi media heartbreakingly highlighted the helplessness of the Rohingya refugees. As a result, a humanitarian perspective towards them upsurges nationwide. However, their weaknesses gradually turned them into an emblem of misery. At one point, “Rohingya” became an abusive word in this country. Whenever someone was helpless, destitute, or in trouble, a group of people would make fun of him, calling that he had become a ‘Rohingya’. Some media houses represented them as a burden for this country and created a hype that they’ll never return. Local journalists often treated them as a food of news, not as a human. This documentary project aims to illustrate some of these inconsistencies through a fictional story in a real-life setup. It chronicles the story of two journos working on a news report on a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, where one is trying to find real stories, and another one is simply hunting for a few 5-second bites. It also seeks to unveil the cruel reality of the media, where the sufferings of the Rohingya people have only been valued but not them.

Title: Shobder Jadukor-The Foley Artist (2020)

Synopsis: In my sophomore year of undergrad, I took a course called Sound and Music for Television and Film Studies. While studying the course, I became fascinated to know about Foley art. Interestingly, I began to research about the sound effect making process of Bangladeshi cinema. However, when I went to groundwork, I was stunned to know that there is no professional Foley artist in Bangladesh, not even a specialized Foley studio! In Bangladeshi Cinema Industry, Foley is known as effect sound. Some incredibly talented and phonetic individuals- mainly third assistant directors, production crew, or stuntmen give sound- effects here. Creating sound effects is an art. But that the people who give sound effects could have a separate entity is not ever imagined here! They have no different categories in the industry, no recognition and in even most of the cases, their names are not given on the film credits. After tireless searching, I found out stuntman Shonjoy who is the only Foley artist in Bangladesh at present. Although he did not have any other competitor, Shonjoy was not able to turn his fortune. The collapse of the Bangladeshi movie industry led him to leave the film capital and to shift to his village. Now there he works in the field and makes a living. This documentary project seeks to break the silence and to bring Shonjoy to light. It is to introduce viewers to the style of giving sound effects in this region. Sanjay recreates sound effects from some of the iconic Bangla movies in the studio. Parallelly, it explores the past and present of the Foley practices of Bangladeshi cinema through the interview of a veteran director and a famous voice artist. In conclusion, it manifests the story of Sanjay and his regret for not being recognized as a Foley artist.

Synopsis: As days pass, the journey of life unfolds with countless events. On one hand, the relentless cycle of life draws us closer to our end, while on the other, it gives birth to new stars. However, simply being born a star does not guarantee that one will shine brightly in the sky in their own glory. Love, affection, care, and support are essential to spark that light. For a child, a family is the first foundation of trust—a safe haven. There, wrapped in the profound love of their parents, a child is prepared for tomorrow. But is everyone blessed with such a family? Does everyone get to grow up under the protective shade of their parents? Is everyone welcomed into this world with open arms?

The answer is no. Not everyone is given such a family, nor does everyone get to grow up surrounded by such warmth and affection. Yet, life does not simply stop. It wanders in search of a safe harbor, hoping to find love somewhere.

The documentary Nondito Nokkhotro tells the story of a star who, having lost her family, is growing up in an entirely different environment. What does her daily life look like? What are her dreams? How is she being raised? This documentary sets out to find the answers to these questions.
