I research how streaming platforms and AI are reshaping the screen industry in the Global South.

Having spent three years studying how platformisation restructured and transformed the screen industry in Bangladesh, I am actively seeking a doctoral position to study what happens next to that industry. By taking Bangladesh as a case, my proposed project asks what generative AI is doing and will be doing to screen industries in the Global South, and what this means for commissioning, production, creative labour and governance across three strands:
Production: How AI tools enter commissioning and production practices, and who has access to them and who controls their use.
Creative labour: Which roles absorb or resist the change, and how power shifts between producers, platforms, talent and crew.
Governance: How creative rights are negotiated in contexts of weak governance, including authorship, performance and other creative rights.
I am a Lecturer in Mass Communication and Journalism at the Bangladesh University of Professionals. My research examines screen industries and platform economies in the Global South, focusing on how streaming has restructured production in small and under-studied markets. Current projects include articles submitted to Convergence and Television & New Media, as well as a forthcoming Routledge book chapter.
Previously, I taught at BRAC University and the Green University of Bangladesh. I graduated from the Department of Television, Film and Photography at the University of Dhaka, ranking first in both my Honours and Master's programmes and earning CGPAs of 3.64 and 3.60, respectively. My master's thesis, OTT and New Genres of Content: Bangladeshi Perspective, examined the emergence of streaming platforms in Bangladesh.
Alongside my academic work, I have worked as a programme researcher and scriptwriter for the streaming platform Bongo and as an assistant director at Runout Films and other production houses. My undergraduate capstone project, the short film Life, Corona, and Some Pigeons (2022), was screened at local festivals and won an award at the Global Youth Film Festival Bangladesh.
